Halloween DIY Wreath, Dollar Store Crafts, Cupcake wrapper wreath, Halloween Wreath, Shabby Chic

I was in the Dollar Tree the other day looking for (what else) some craft supplies when I came across these cute little mini-cupcake wrappers and thought they would be perfect for a cupcake wreath. This entire craft was made using items purchased at the Dollar Tree for a total of $5. Florists' pins and the purple ribbon I had on hand. This is a great inexpensive wreath that you can make for any occasion, gift etc.To make this 8 inch wreath here is what you will need:1. 8 inch foam wreath2. 2 packages of 100 each mini-cupcake wrappers3.  Ribbon. Depending on how wide the ribbon is you will need less or more. The ribbon I used was about 1 1/2 inch wide. I used one role of ribbon totaling 3 yards.4. Wire embellishment (optional) feel free to use what other embellishment items you like!5. Glue gun6. 4 Florists pins or straight pins. You can pick up a pack of 100 at Wal-Mart for $1. I had these on hand. This is optional you can use glue gun. I like to use the florist pins because they really secure the ribbon to the foam.To make the wreath:Plug in your hot glue gun.Begin by wrapping your wreath with the ribbon. Secure one end of your ribbon with one of the florist's pin.  If you are using one of those green foam wreaths leave the plastic on it and just cut out the centers. It's less messy that way.Once you're wrapped your wreath secure the other end with one another florist pin.Next take your cupcake wrapper and fold it in into a quarter: fold it in half and then in half again.Gently fold over the tip of the wrapper to create a tiny base for your glue to go. Dab on a small amount of glue onto your wrapper and place it on your wreath. Continue placing the wrappers creating clusters that are close together.Once you've covered your wreath in the cupcake wrappers (I used about 120 individual wrappers.)  turn the wreath over and secure a piece of ribbon for the hanger. Use your judgement for length based on where you plan on hanging the wreath. Take the remaining two florist pins cris-crossing them over each other to form an "x". By doing this you firmly secure the pin in place. I leave a little "tail" in the ribbon to fold over and hot glue to cover the pin.Next create a bow and secure another pin by pushing it through the back. That's it your done!

You can hang your wreath practically anywhere of course there are doors, but other nice places include over mirrors and windows.

This wreath is currently for sale in my etsy shop.

I Booed My Neighbors-Neighborhood Boo! Cute Ghost Halloween Craft!

*Originally published on October 22, 2009On Monday my little goblin otherwise known as Evan and I went to reciprocate our Boo and Boo a few neighbors-three to be exact. It was a lot of fun! As a bonus I got to be a little crafty which I love!I made these cute ghosts as a treat and a little holiday decor.I also left a few extra treats in a little bag for our Boo recipients.Making the ghosts is so easy it's scary! You too can start a Neighborhood Boo! It is a lot of fun and really helps you get into the holiday spirit!Supplies:

  • lollipops for the mini-pumpkins I used DumDums
  • pumpkin
  • tissue paper (you can use napkins if you're using a bigger lollipop)
  • black marker (fine tipped works best)
  • clear scotch tape, white twist ties, or white string

To create the ghosts:Place one tissue paper over a lollipop secure the tissue paper at the base of the ghost with tape, twist-tie, or string. For the smaller lollipops I tore the tape in half.Draw little ghost eyes.To insert ghosts in pumpkin:Using a skewer or other thin pointy object gently puncture holes in your pumpkin. Its best if you puncture then place your ghost into the hole so that you can see where to place your next ghost for optimum prettiness. That's it! I told you it was so easy it was SCARY!For this Booing I used mini-pumpkins but a larger pumpkin can be used as well -I'd just recommend using a bigger lollipop like a Blow Pop or a Tootsie Roll pop.To Boo my neighbors I printed out this cute poem on cardstock  in a spooky orange font and decorated the paper with Halloween stickers and taped it on their doors

The air is cool, the season fall,

Soon Halloween will come to all.

Ghosts and goblins, spooks galore...

Tricky witches at your door.

The spooks are after things to do,

In fact a spook brought this "Boo" to you!

The excitement comes when friends like you,

Copy this note and make it two.

We'll all have smiles upon our faces,

No one will know who "BOO"ed who's places!

Work your spell,

Keep it secret, hide it well.

Please join the fun, the seasons here .

Just spread these "BOO's" and Halloween cheer.

Great poem right? I didn't come up with it myself. I snatched it from this website.

Here is what my little "Boo" looked like when left on a neighbor's doorstep.

Handy Craft Supplies

Today the mailman left a darling surprise on my doorstep. A package from my good friend Noelle. Among the goodies she sent for the boys she included a few surprises for me, two of which were these awesome shopping bags from TJ Maxx. She knows how much I love re-usable bags and I was really enthused about how big they were. I immediately knew what I would use them for...Organizing my craft supplies.  Since moving into my in-laws home we're really short on space and I've been keeping my bulkier craft supplies mostly yarn, ribbon, and fabric in a storage bin. I transferred it all into these two bags and I'm looking forward to having my crafting supplies easily accessible again. They'll go right in my closet where I can pull them out when ever the mood to craft hits-which let's be honest, happens all the time. I then placed the fragile items currently listed in my etsy shop and a few pending "project" supplies into the bin where I know they'll be safe from breaking.love & good friends,

n.

Play-time Fun with Moon Dough

When Moon Dough first came out a few years ago I quickly scooped up a box and although it was a lot of fun the product left much to be desired. For one thing it was very messy and the dough didn't stick all that well when it was used in the molds the product often came with.

I recently got the opportunity to sit down with my little guy and try a new and improved moon dough with a brand new formula and was rather pleased with the product. I was so pleased in fact, that I went out and purchased a box as a birthday gift for one of my husband's little cousins.

Evan and I had a lot of fun testing out the Moon Dough Push N' Pop Ocean Pals set and what I liked about it is that it came with a little play mat with an ocean scene on it and a place to set the molds in. The product definitely doesn't dry out as I left this outside over night on a table underneath a covered porch and regardless of how humid it may be here in Miami it is hot and my son was able to resume his play the next day with out any noticeable differences to the product.

What I wasn't to thrilled about was the fact that this set didn't come with any container to put the moon dough in when you're done playing with it. The dough comes in a plastic zip lock type of baggie but I would much prefer there to be some sort of plastic container like play dough comes in to store the stuff.

For the $9.99 suggested retail it's a good buy for fun craft-time play and does make a nice gift.

*I was provided with this product free of charge to facilitate this review all opinions are my own.

Easy Decorative Chalk Board

Last week I was in Michaels (I big puffy heart love Michaels) and I came across this great frame on clearance. I quickly scooped it up because I love frames and I love them even more when they're not only pretty but on sale too! Frames are great not just for displaying beloved photographs, they make lovely wall decor when they're hung with out their backs in groups, and for other fun and easy craft projects like decorative chalkboards.I'm sure most of you have heard of chalk board paint, you may have even read about ways to make your own at home.I promise you that this chalk board craft is easy and has practically no mess! Here are the supplies you'll need.1. A frame, any old one you have laying about the house will do, but it must have the back to it-other wise you'll have to do a bit more work.2. Scissors, or a paper cutting thing-a-ma-jig.3. Chalkboard Paper (it's like Contact Paper and it comes in a roll, in sheets, or even in fun shapes like hearts and stars!)Directions (How to make a decorative (and functional) chalk-board frame.)1. Measure the back to your frame, or if you don't have a back you can find a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit.2. Measure and cut your chalk board paper.Steps 1 and 2 can easily be combined by placing the framing backing on to the chalk board paper and cutting about 1/2 to one inch extra around the entire frame backing.3. Carefully peel off the backing of the chalk board paper.4. Place the frame backing front side out onto the sticky side of the chalk bard paper.5. Turn the backing over and press the paper down ensuring that there are no air bubbles.6. Turn the frame backing over and lay on a flat surface and fold the edges in (much like you would a gift).7. Next, insert the frame backing into the frame.8 Last, secure the frame backing into the front of the frame and hang.Since this frame was brand new I had the glass, and because of the tabbed closures on the frame I was able to place the glass int he back, just in case I ever want to use the frame for something else. That's it. Clean up is a breeze which allows you to get to using your new chalk board that much quicker! My total cost for this project was $8.00 the roll of chalk board paper was $4.99 ( I've got a ton of paper left over for future projects) and the frame $3. If you make you're own chalk board I'd love to see pictures! love & crafting,

Hallo'Tattoo!

Happy Halloween!

How to make a tutuLast night my family and I attended a Halloween Bash at a friend's house in our old neighborhood.  We had a grand time, but pulling up to the street and not turning into the drive at our house felt a little weird...We quickly got over it when we thought about the stress involved with selling the darn thing! Pictured above is me in my Halloween best. I made the tutu myself (you can expect a tutorial sometime soon). I dressed up as the Night Sky.Yesterday I also got the tattoo I've been wanting. Remember...I told you about it-the one to honor my grandmother...Here's a close up version.Lyrical Tattoo, Blue October I am absolutely pleased with the result and the tattoo artist (he's the husband of a pal of mine) is truly an artist. You can check out both of their work on their blog The Horse and Hare or at their Etsy shoppe. Save
