The Lords of Salem a Novel (Book Review)

I've always thought Rob Zombie was brilliant.I had high hopes for this novel. Had I known (at the time of purchase) this book was an adaptation from his screenplay I think it would've stayed on the shelf and I would've opted to watch the movie instead.I'd not read a horror novel in quite some time, and I figured Rob Zombie would be a good bet. All of the elements were there for it to be awesome. Historical fiction, a book opening in Salem in the 1600's with witch hunters and witches. Some über scary Satanic rituals and later dark figures lurking in empty apartments...I immediately liked the protagonist. She was a bit damaged, but on a path I felt to redeem herself.I got half way through this book and finally decided, I just couldn't read anymore. Reading it had become a chore and I wasn't enjoying it. It's execution was poor. I could never loose myself in the pages.  I get the feeling that the second author listed (B.K. Evenson) must have been the one to slap this all together from Zombie's screenplay and notes or something. There was no real character or story development, and not in any good minimalistic way; it was just a lot of gore, and other crap that filled the pages.I wanted to be afraid to turn the page, and I was, but for all the wrong reasons.Bummer.
