First Lady, Michelle Obama Adresses Military Families

As a military spouse I had no idea that our First Lady, Michelle Obama addressed military families specifically right before President Obama's election.

During the campaign, I wasn't a big fan of Mrs. Obama, mainly because I thought she came across as abrubt, and standoffish, those were my first impressions, and after that admitedly I really didn't focus my attention on the future First Lady.

However in a letter she wrote exclusively for USA Weekend, on January 18, 2009, Mrs. Obama, spoke directly to the military and their families, regarding the sacrafices we make. She also spoke to the nation as a whole saying that we could "learn a fundamental lesson from our military families: You don't need to wear a uniform to serve your country. We all have something to contribute to the life of this nation." A statement I could not agree more with. It's important to teach service to our children, and to take pride in our communities. I know that in the comming months my husband and I will be doing more to teach our nearly five year old about community service, and actively participating in serving others in some capacity.

Now, I might just go pick up this month's Vogue issue, with her on the cover. Might!
