A Few Goals for 2009

I was in Miami for the New Year, and really was unable to blog about resolutions, goals for 2009 etc. I’ve been thinking about that a lot for the past few days and have decided to make public a few of my goals for this year.

I never really make New Year’s resolutions because I think one’s goals can change, although I do think the New Year is a perfect time to take stock of what’s transpired during the past 365 days, make note of what you liked, as well of what wasn’t as pleasing and figure out ways to change if possible the things that irked you, and create more of what made your heart smile.

The past year was as I mentioned in a previous blog full of both moments that made my heart beam, as well as times when I felt like I was constantly treading water and that at any moment I just might go under. However, my husband, my anchor was always there to throw me a life raft and together we weathered the difficult times we faced. No one really knows about that, and I’m not going to divulge that here but between my husband and I we’ve always had a “us against the world” motto, and so far it’s worked. In a few weeks we’ll be celebrating our eighth year of marriage and that is surely to make my heart beam in this newborn year.

With that said, here are my goals for 2009 in no particular order. (2009 the first decade of the twenty-first century is nearly over …freaking wild!)

Make new friends, and further nurture the friendships I have. I’ve been really lax in keeping in touch with friends who are near and dear to me. There’s really no excuse for that.

Further develop my craft. Treat it like a true profession, and write everyday as much as I can, even if I think its crap, chances are no one is ever going to see that stuff anyway.

Dance more. Look into taking a few classes, sure I’ll probably be the fattest chica there but who cares!

Stop yelling. It seems that recently I’ve been yelling a lot. Yelling for Mo to come upstairs, yelling for him to come down, yelling in frustration, my genetic heritage has no contributing factor in that as much as I would like to think it does. Make the saying “speak softly, but carry a big stick” your reminder.

Get my family to eat healthier especially Mo, lately it seems he’s under the impression that meat, sugar, and cheerios are main staples in a healthy diet. Do this by cooking every day. OK. That’s not going to happen. Make it your goal to cook more.

Hang up a pink chandelier. Pink makes my heart smile.

Become proficient in Photo Shop CS3.

Speak more Spanish, make sure Mo is learning it too.

Learn something new.
